It goes without saying that the engine is the most important part of any automobile. Unfortunately, a majority of people do not take the necessary preventative steps to ensure that the engine in their car is performing to its full potential. Here are a few tips:

• Oil changes! The importance of routinely getting your car’s oil changed cannot be stressed enough. Auto shops don’t give you stickers reminding you when to get one for no reason, this schedule is vital. Oil keeps all of the parts of your engine running smoothly by lubricating them to reduce friction. This is absolutely essential to your vehicle’s performance. After a certain period of time, oil loses some of its lubrication, resulting in excess friction in your engine. This is not good, get your oil changed!
• The coolant fluid will keep the temperature of everything under the hood at a functional level. Checking the levels of the coolant in your car is easy and should be done every couple weeks
• Don’t forget to make sure the thermostat is working properly. A broken thermostat will stop the engine from heating up, and your car will lose power
• Checking and changing your spark plugs is a relatively simple process that drastically improves your car’s overall performance. Get this done as soon as any problems with your spark plugs arise
• Change your air filter every 15,000 miles and your oil filter every 3,000 miles

By following these simple car engine maintenance tips, you can not only ensure a longer life for your engine, but will be able to keep its performance up to the mark throughout its life.
